What does a Boot Camp training consist of?

In a generation in which fitness, image and interest in healthy living are multiplying, boot camp training is becoming increasingly popular. This modality has certain similarities with CrossFit and other high-intensity physical activities, but its main differentiating element is that it is carried out in nature.

If you want to know more about boot camp as a sport, don’t hesitate to visit SLAM International. In our centre we offer different options for you to enjoy outdoor sports, in a privileged environment, and with top quality facilities.

What is a Boot Camp?

Bootcamp training, or boot camp for short, is inspired by the physical preparation carried out by the military. It is a modality that takes place in the open air and makes the most of the elements available. It can take place in urban areas, in parks and green spaces, as well as in rural areas, taking advantage of forests and other environments.

The boot camp mixes exercises that combine strength and cardiovascular conditioning. It is a very effective type of training that is becoming increasingly popular in Spain, hence its inclusion in our centre. At SLAM International we offer personalised boot camps for all types of users and design activities that are in line with their fitness level and conditioning desires.

It shares some objectives with other physical disciplines, such as excellent results in weight loss and muscle improvement. However, it is not intended to be a continuous activity, but rather a camp, a camp, so it is very specific in time.

The boot camps at SLAM International are organized mainly in summer, in periods of different lengths that are adjusted to the needs of the participants, which is why they are personalized training sessions.

What does this type of training consist of?

The boot camp sport is based on sessions that can last up to an hour and in which you always have to be very active. It is a system that combines technical difficulty, a lot of resistance and a very long period of time.

It makes use of the elements offered by the environment (benches, stairs, slopes, trees), but also adds gym equipment such as medicine balls, elastic bands, kettlebells, sandbags, coordination ladders, mittens and a wide variety of other equipment.

The sessions are very dynamic and varied. And be careful, although they are designed for athletes with a certain level of fitness, it is a workout that can be adapted to all kinds of people. In fact, you don’t need to be a great athlete to attend a boot camp.

The intensity of the workouts is determined by the number of repetitions in each exercise. The more repetitions you are able to perform, the higher level you will reach. In this type of training there is always an instructor who supervises the positions and technique to avoid injuries.

High-intensity exercise

The movements or activities carried out in this type of training include self-loading, abdominal exercises, speed exercises, boxing, movements to increase flexibility, use of heavy materials, etc…

All of this is designed to achieve a harmonious development of physical capacities and to reach an appreciable state of fitness. The sessions are long, but include intense but short conditioning periods followed by continuous breaks.

The key to boot camp is that, despite its toughness, it is a very dynamic modality, with a high work rate. However, the sessions are very much determined by the weather conditions, as they take place outdoors. Moreover, they are constantly modified so as not to fall into a routine.

Benefits of Boot Camps

Boot camps have a series of physical, mental and self-improvement benefits that are worth knowing about. First of all, it is a type of training that moves away from the typical gym routines, so we leave aside a space that can end up boring the athlete. Beyond this, the main benefits of this sport are the following:

  • Improved cardiovascular health.
  • It contributes effectively to losing weight and reducing body fat (it is estimated that a session can burn between 800 and 1500 calories).
  • Improved self-esteem.
  • Helps to obtain a better body posture.
  • Prevents muscle injuries.
  • Increases physical skills such as muscular strength, agility and endurance.
  • Increases self-esteem and self-confidence.
  • Promotes teamwork and social relationships.
  • Ideal training to improve in other disciplines or sports.
  • Increases motivation and energy to face challenges in other areas.
